2:30pm (Call to find out needed documentation). Provides payments for utility cutoffs and rental evictions.


Resource: Montgomery Co. Dept. of Social Services Fuel Assistance Program

Information: Crisis fuel program starts November 1st, and is only used when heating is cut off. Applications through November 14th for fuel assistance based on income. Cooling program begins in June.


Resource: Neighbor to Neighbor Program

Information: For American Electric Company or Appalachian Power clients. Heat assistance applied for with Social Services, bill must be over $100 but less than $500 and client must have made payment themselves without organizational help of at least $100 within 90 days of asking services. Must have Social Security card. Must prove power has been cut off, or show a Threat of Termination letter.

Information: Resource provides emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling advocacy and education.  Provides emergency shelter for woman and children who are victims of domestic violence or sexual assault.  Contact Aline Brinkman for more information about educational services for homeless Montgomery Co. students in the shelter.

Information: Montgomery County residents can be screened through New River Valley Community Action.  Resource offers assistance to families whom are at risk of eviction due to financial setbacks.

Information: Offers Sliding Scale Program for uninsured and low income families. Must fill out application and Proof of Income, no walk in service available. Also offers service for those with insurance.

Information: School nurses can call for students. Offer OBGYN referrals and adoption referrals. Offer parenting classes in Blacksburg and Pulaski that can help provide resources, and mentoring programs. Free pregnancy testing.





Resource: CHIP of New River Valley (Children’s Health Improvement Partnership)

Transportation Resources


Resource: Blacksburg Transit

Information – Adult fare is $.50 per trip, 1 month pass is $8.00. People with disabilities, Medicaid card holders, and children age 3-17 fare is $.25 per trip, 1 moth pass is $4.00.


Resource: Go Anywhere! Bus

Hours: Monday thru Friday 7:00am – 5:00pm

Information: Call the day of or at least 14 days in advance of trip to reserve a vehicle, operator will meet at agreed place, and drive to where is necessary. Can only go to locations in Christiansburg. Fee is $.50 per trip. Ages 65 and over, people with disabilities and Medicaid cardholders is $.25 per trip.

Information: Transportation is contracted through LogistiCare (Medicaid funded rides for non-emergency medical and health care appointments. Also any other services listed in individual service plans. Must call with Medicaid number, date and time, and pick up and drop off address. If qualified, will provide free transportation. Ask for an URGENT trip if you have a sudden illness and your doctor is willing to see you in less than five days.) and Virginia Premier.
